Hello! There's actually been more than one request for the subject(s) of today's post, so hopefully this matches up to it. It's another two-parter, as well. We've featured them before but they're really popular... and with good reason, too.

So, let's go for another feature of canines! Some are dogs, some aren't dogs, and none are cool cats not because they're not cool but becuse they're not cats. I won't be covering breeds that we've previously done, but even so, I could probably go on for ages with this theme (or even do one entire post on the different subspecies of wolves or of jackals- if you're interested in that, request it! It might just happen if people want). Today's four are all non-domestic animals (which is not the same thing as non-tamable animals, there's definitely a distinction there), and tomorrow's post will have four cute and/or interesting domestic dogs.

There's really a huge variety of animals even within a species, isn't there? Which of course brings us to the usual one...

Hello, it's a spider!

source

...What the- that doesn't look like many of the other spiders we've seen here! Really, though, that's not a surprise. This is Micrathena gracilis, more commonly known as the Spined Micrathena, from the family of orb-weavers (which quite often produces very pretty and unique looking family members). They also come in all shapes and colours- from the ones that look like they're carrying seashells on their backs...

While they may certainly look odd, these spiders- like many others- help to protect us against bugs and other such creatures and are completely harmless to humans. No poison, no venom, and while their webs can be surprisingly big, they're sort of tiny themselves and only really live about a year.
